10 Resolutions for IAS/IPS Aspirants This Year!

Certain resolutions can boost your productivity and change your life! This is particularly true for UPSC CSE aspirants. Here are 10 Resolutions for IAS/IPS Aspirants which can work wonders in the new year!

Note: Resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something.

1. Be more organised
In the online age of IAS preparation, the most difficult thing is to be organised. You get thousands of forwards from Whatsapp, Telegram, Facebook, and so on. But once materials accumulate, it turns counter-productive.

Organise your online materials neatly in different folders for easy navigation. Keep your books and surroundings neat. Make a proper ‘To-Do list’. And most importantly, follow a timetable.

2. Stick to the syllabus
Take a strong resolution that you will stick to the UPSC CSE syllabus. Going behind everything under the Sun will exhaust you very soon.

Stop downloading everything you see on the internet. Take a print out of UPSC syllabus – Prelims, Mains and Interview, and paste it on your walls.

3. Stop procrastinating:
The biggest barrier that keeps most people from reaching their goals is the desire to relax and do something fun instead of working hard. Learn to prioritize. Be punctual. That will create wonders.

4. Utilize your free time more effectively
If you get free time while waiting for a bus or travel in train, use free resources like ClearIAS mobile app. Download and Install ClearIAS app for free.

5. Start practising mock exams daily
Photostat copies of mock exams won’t help like timed mock exams. So don’t rely on them much.

Take at least two ClearIAS online mock test every week, simulating exam conditions. Revise already taken exams and previous year questions for at least 1 hour daily.

6. Finish NCERTs
If you haven’t finished NCERTs yet, finish them at the earliest. NCERT books, NIOS books, IGNOU books etc are very easy to study and has authentic information. At least finish NCERTs by next month.

Writing improves your clarity of thinking. Good writing skills are necessary for UPSC CSE Mains. Make it a habit to write model answers of previous year UPSC questions, and get evaluated by peers or experts.

8. Improve communication skills:
Practice speaking quality English. Read newspapers and listen to the news – AIR, and RajyaSabha TV. Develop a good vocabulary. This helps a lot.

9. Stop the habit of checking mobile phone frequently
Mobile phones are the biggest distraction for UPSC aspirants. Stop checking for WhatsApp or facebook messages every minute. Keep your mobile phone away while studying books.

This would improve your productivity significantly.

10. Read less, Revise more!
Usually, aspirants read and lot but revise little. But the key to a powerful memory is the revision.

Revise whatever you study in a day before you go to bed. Also revise the same, the next day before you start. Also make sure your revise on weekends, and month-ends. This will work magic, and you become expert in whatever you studied.

Wish you all the best!
